5 reasons why MMO games are good for you

After reading so many (serious, so many OMG) articles from buzzfeed, I decided that I should also write one for myself. So here it is

5 reasons why MMO games are good for you

It has been 3 weeks since I started playing GuildWars2 and I must say, it was an amazing experience for my bf and I. Within 1 week, I had leveled up to level 40 and am currently at level 56. I love doing dungeons and killing everything that comes my way.

Anyway, here are my 5 reasons why MMO games are good for you.

1)  A vast improvement in map reading

Before I started playing GW2, I could barely read a map. I could even get myself lost with a GPS and Google Maps. I was always that hopeless damsel in distress who eventually had to either ask for directions, or, hail for a cab. However, since I started playing, I realized that I could recognize landmarks better and I rarely got lost. Seriously. No joke.

2) Micromanagement (multi tasking)

I always thought I have amazing multitasking skills. Especially after my victory over the completion of 2 academic essays which I did simultaneously. But after accepting my bf's multitasking challenge (which you can find in this link ), I lost terribly. I was like WTF? I thought guys suck at multitasking! How can I lose!? This is not possible.

But it is possible. While playing GW2, I learned that every time I attack an enemy, I should not just keep pressing "111111111111111111111111111111111111111" In fact, I had to do the following.

1) Attack with all the different skills (skill rotation) This is very important especially since most skills have a pretty long cool down time. While waiting for your most bad ass, powerful skill to recharge, you need to continue to attack with your other skills. Pressing 1 will not save yo arse.

2) Check health. If you don't. You die. Nuff said.

3) Run around the enemy. Don't stay at the same spot. You are not the only one who has powers. You enemy has powers too and they can damage your health if you stay in one spot for too long. Often, dodging and running around like a pesky cockroach is needed.

3) A heighten awareness of the environment and strategic planning

When I first started out, my bf would always scream at me for running too close to the enemies. And I would be like. "WHAT ENEMIES??? WHERE???" and then get attacked from behind. 30 levels later, I would occasionally pause, look around and avoid going too close to enemies. Also, if I actually DO WANT TO take down enemies because it's a mission or something, strategic planning is crucial. Running straight in to enemies' territory yelling "THIS IS SPARTAAAAAA" spells a one way ticket to your nearest waypoint.

4) Improved eyesight

Honestly, it took a bit of getting used to in terms of maneuvering the character and making it run to the direction I want. The whole zooming in and out of the screen while in combat and all almost drove me mad. Everything was just moving too quickly. Also, doing world events, there are sooo many players that you lose sight of yourself too! For sometime, I had to use my peripheral vision so that I can see EVERYTHING. But from all those hours of training, I am finally able to catch images within split seconds to see where i'm going and, check my surroundings.

5) Meeting people from all over the world

It's really interesting when you see nice, friendly, and chatty players. My bf and I once chatted with another player while waiting for the other players to arrive to do a dungeon. It's really exciting to talk to someone you completely don't know through an online game. Unlike talking to strangers from chat roulette which can be awkward and creepy sometimes, chatting, even for 30 seconds with a fellow online player is really something else.

Well, this is the end of my 5 reasons why MMO games are good for you. There are really a lot more reasons why MMOs are good for you. But I'm pretty lazy. So ta!

It's been long

well, how long has it been?

6 months since I last blogged?

Gawd i'm terrible at this blogging thingy.
Anyway, just a short update.

1) I graduated! With amazaballs results of course. Now that i've completed everything, I'm more willing to disclose my results. 7 High distinctions and 5 Distinctions and my GPA is 3.58/4.0. Pretty good eh? All thanks to my amazing lecturers and tutors who actually bothered to answer all my retarded questions and emails. Thank you all so much.

2) I celebrated bf's 22nd birthday on a boat that had a burlesque performance, DJ, and bad ass champagne. Not to forget the melbourne- wide treasure hunt which led him to a ukelele shop where he got his bday gift from me.

3) Bf finally finish knitting the scarf that was supposed to be our 1st anniversary present.

4) Going back to Singapore for awhile to visit my family and friends while waiting for my visa to be processed. Gawd. It's bloody expensive to get ANY visa here. A temporary graduate visa for 1.4k AUD with a 220 AUD health checkup and 300 AUD IELTS test. What the hell man.

5) Speaking of IELTS, I almost got full marks for it! 8.5/9.0 (yes, for those who doesn't know, the maximum score is 9. Weird, I know.)

6) Went to a cabaret at "DRACULAS" and it was bloody amazing! hahaha.."bloody" get it? Food was kinda crappy but the show was so good.

7) Falling in love with IU. This really young korean singer who has an amazing voice and equally amazing songs. Note: I recommend "good day" for those who wants to be impressed.

8) Been playing Guild Wars2 for about 2 weeks and I must say it is pretty good. Note to self: Write a blog post about the benefits of playing MMOs like Guild Wars2.

9) According to my recent medical checkup, I'm 164cm tall and 46kg heavy.

10) I think there are a lot more pressing medical issues out there than ALS. The ice bucket challenge thing is a little over rated I think. People are doing it now just because it's a trend and they just want some attention. IMO, if you really cared, you'd just donate, nominated or not. Despite that, I'm sincerely glad this ice bucket challenge created the hype enough to generate so much funds for research.

11) Went to GOLD COAST! Weee

12) Learned to play mahjong. And I must say that I'm really really lucky because I won 3 out of 6 rounds and had the best hands.

13) Learned that it's not the quantity of friends that matters. It's the quality. And always be careful of people that pretends to be super nice but is actually a bitch.

It's back to melbourne

Well, I finally got back to melbourne. Had my hair dyed violet red and turquoise.

What's cuter than an alpaca??

A PINK LADY ALPACA WITH EYELASHES

Day 2 in melb. Looking super tired after the 7 hours flight and spring cleaning of Asyraaf's house

This was taken on Saturday, after Asyraaf and I moved my stuff back to gippsland. We had to return the rented car and had stopped by our favorite breakfast place

My fav Earl Grey Tea

This is called the California, Scrambled eggs with bacon bits, tomatoes and chives, topped with hollandaise sauce on top of sourdough bread, grilled to perfection

Asyraaf's BIG breakfast

Went to Queen Vic Market on saturday after we returned the car and had some really amazing fresh oysters for only AUD12!!!! And they give u a lemon too >.<

Decided to go all out healthy again so we went to T2 (Tea2) to buy tea. This is called the green rose. A mixed blend of green tea, rose, and a bunch of other fruits like mango, papaya etc etc.

On sunday, we went to Vic market AGAIN and this time, there was a BBQ event going on!!!! BBQ FTW

the little things

“The small things of life were often so much bigger than the great things . . . the trivial pleasure like cooking, one's home, little poems especially sad ones, solitary walks, funny things seen and overheard.”

― Barbara Pym

While Asyraaf was in SG for that 10 days, we tried our best to make our day together as well spent. One of them was our trip to Vivocity (when we were supposed to go to the S.E.A Aquarium)

Chilling at the open area on the roof of Vivocity. Watching people- tourists, families, couples and groups of noisy teenagers. Watching the amazing view, birds flying over our heads, blue skies, fluffy white clouds, ships and Universal Studios. We sat there for about an hour, eating Ben and Jerry's ice cream. Enjoying each others' company.

Asyraaf finally decided to give graphic tees and skinny jeans a try. I'm proud of you dear!

22nd bday- best ever

I thought I should document this yearly affair because it was simply the best birthday ever and I should really remember it for the rest of my life.

on the 26th Jan 2014, Asy and I headed to Bintan for a short getaway to celebrate my bday. My dad bought me a one night getaway from groupon for the both of us so that we could spend the countdown there and lit fireworks (because it's legal in Bintan). So anyway, on the 26th Jan 2014, 7am, we went to Tanah Merah Ferry Interchange and managed to catch the amazing morning sun.

Well, it's good to look at my face with some makeup on NOW because the later photos will show me with ZERO makeup and horrible flat ugly hair.

SO after all the camwhoring and stuff, we finally boarded the ferry and headed for Bintan.
I was badly seasick even though I had the seasickness pills. Felt like throwing up the entire day and was lethargic throughout.

The groupon deal included a city trip in the day, massage, ferry and land transfer to the resort.

So after meeting the tourguide, we went to a few places like this big temple and a few malls which were kinda small...? nonetheless, it was cool to see shopping malls different from Singapore's.

Then we went to the resort. (how do I rotate this without having to do HTML coding cuz I am so damn lazy to do that =(  )

Anyway, we had our massage and booked a mangrove tour to view fireflies. Unfortunately, it was too windy due to the monsoon season and the trip was cancelled

Later that night, Asy and I paid SGD 29 per person for a huge meal (BBQ) the consisted of fish, squid, satay, chicken wings, spring chicken, otah, prawns, fresh home made bread that was warm and sweet (fregging awesome), veggies and other stuff that I dont remember anymore.

The service of the staff was really good and it was the only thing that kept us from making a big fuss about the horrible room we got.

1) whole room smelt of mothballs (made me feel even more nauseous)
2) Water pump wasn't working
3) Water pump was "fixed" but yellow water came out
4) Had to call for service at least 5 times because water kept drying out

After the dinner, we went back to our room to just chill out and watch movies. I felt quite sick and honestly, depressed, because my bday celebration was a complete flop. We couldn't go for the mangrove tour and the wind wouldn't stop blowing so fireworks were also out of the question. So I decided to sleep it off in hope that time would pass faster.

At about 1030pm indo time, I woke up and realized that well, it was still too early. Asyraaf knew I was being all emo and shit so he told me that we could watch a show together. We decided to stream the newest episode of grimm.

It was about 1130pm indo time when I heard a knock on the door of our hotel room. Asyraaf told me to open it. At first I thought it was the repair man to fix the water pump, but it turned out to be 3 staffs carrying a birthday cake!!!!

Apparently, while I was busy checking in and stuff, Asyraaf went to the front desk and requested a cake for me. And it also turned out that the cake was baked on that day by one of the staff's mother!!
How touching! I was so touched by Asy's kind gesture I cried.

After the teary bday cake surprise, Asyraaf surprised me AGAIN with a treasure hunt by putting post-it notes everywhere with super difficult hints (CUZ SCIENCE) that led to my bday present!

MY BDAY PRESSIE! A Thomas Sabo pearl charm with a diamond (inside the) heart. Asyraaf told me i'm the first GF he has ever bought a diamond-something for.

I felt so. Honored.

After the cake and pressie hunt, we decided to give fireworks a try despite the strong winds. As expected, it was really too dangerous and we decided not to go ahead with those store bought ones. Instead, Asyraaf made our own fireworks/ sparklers out of steel wool with a whisk and a robe.

The next day, 27 Jan 2014, we went back to Singapore and headed down to Orchid Country Club Hotel (best hotel everrrr!)

1) Cheap (SGD166++ per night)
2) Huge room with balcony (44sqm) 1 Queen bed and 1 single bed + sofa + study desk
3) Clean and friendly staff (except for the waitress who rudely asked "YOU BOUGHT YOUR OWN CAKE?" like WTF seriously. So what if I did? Am I not allowed to do that? Is that an embarrassment? And NO, MY BOYFRIEND (which I think you don't have one) BOUGHT IT FOR ME.
4) Many good facilities like swimming pools with slides and stuff

So anyway, it was a small gathering of my closest friends like Bethanie (22 years of friendship with 0 fights), Shelley (8 years of friendship), Joey (8 years of friendship) and Joel (3 years of friendship but is someone I can talk to when I'm sad and stuff. Pretty much like a gay friend but straight). The bday went really well. I had lots of fun.

Later that night, after everyone left (and left a huge mess of empty pizza boxes and drink glasses), Asy cleaned up the room while I was busy doing dunno what in the bathroom. When I came out, the room was clean!! like woahhhh... so impressed with Asyraaf's cleaning skills. Perfect husband type ;)

Anyway, the only thing that wasn't done was the bed and I was kinda annoyed that the bed (queen bed that I was going to sleep on) was really messy. So Asyraaf told me to dust the bed and bang the pillows. So i lifted a pillow and I found... A birthday card!! (with a very sweet and touching message)

Again, I was so touched I cried like crazy. It was really the best birthday ever and I really can't ask for more.

Also, I want to thank everyone (the 30++++ of you) who wished me a happy birthday on fb and text. You guys made my day so wonderful and warm. And the awesome ppl who attended my bday, thank you for coming and all the gifts. I love them!

Thank you.
